David Arky approaches photography as a precise language of inquiry, using still life, conceptual practice, and industrial x-ray imaging to examine the internal logic of objects. His work shifts attention away from surface appearance toward structure, revealing the hidden architectures that shape the familiar world.

Grounded in an ongoing engagement with science, engineering, and material culture, Arky transforms everyday objects into studies of transparency and transformation. Through x-ray processes, solid form gives way to layered interiority, where components, contours, and systems are made visible in ways that are at once analytical and quietly evocative.

Rather than functioning as straightforward revelation, these images operate within a productive tension between knowledge and uncertainty. What is exposed is never fully resolved; instead, it invites sustained looking and interpretive engagement. In this space between clarity and opacity, Arky’s work carries a restrained romanticism - an awareness that what lies beneath the surface is not only structural, but also suggestive, fragile, and unexpectedly poetic.

Arky studied photography at the Art Center College of Design and Rochester Institute of Technology, and has been a faculty member at the International Center of Photography since 2001.
